Since finding joy in riding waves as a kid on the beach at Torrey Pines in Del Mar, California, I have loved nature. I witnessed the gorgeous flora of Hawaii as a young teen living in Honolulu, and made different kinds of leis from the plumeria in my front yard.
I moved to the Bay Area at the age of 15, and attended UC Berkeley. While at Berkeley, I studied in Paris and my parents moved to Tokyo – I did a lot of traveling and saw great art and design of both Western and Eastern influence. After college, I worked at Stars Restaurant in San Francisco, and was reminded of the lure of flowers by the huge designs that were installed there every week.
As a young married mom, I created my first true garden - with herbs, lavender, sage, pumpkins, roses - and loved it. Shortly thereafter, I enrolled to earn a Master’s Degree in Divinity from Pacific School of Religion and won a full-ride scholarship for Ph.D. work in philosophy and theology at Drew University in New Jersey.
When I finally decided to pursue education in Floral Design, I met Billy in a class at City College of San Francisco. I love working at Club Botanic – bringing beauty and joy to people in a medium that transcends language - through design, flowers, and most importantly, love.
